A SIR_JACK_A_LOT Christmas Carol - My magnum dong opus on turning $35K to $1.75M (50X) in less than a year

A SIR_JACK_A_LOT Christmas Carol - My magnum dong opus on turning $35K to $1.75M (50X) in less than a year
How I went from $35K to $1.75M (50X) in less than a year

Introduction

Gather 'round retards and autists. Grab a mug of eggnog, find a cozy corner in your mom's basement, and enjoy the tale of SIR JACK A LOT.
In this post: I'll go over my trading history, my strategy, my philosophy, and also systematically destroy every accusation and idiotic question made against me in the last week WITH RECEIPTS. No one doubts motherfuckin SIR JACK A LOT.

Privacy is important to me. I wish to stay anonymous. This is not financial advice, just my story.

Ghosts of Christmas Past

Chapter 1: Crypto (2017-18)
How it all started... I threw every last dollar I had in ETH at $12 and swing traded a ton of shit coins and ICOs until it all came crashing down.
In short: turned $8K into $300K and back to $30k but owed the IRS ~$120K since all the gains were calculated at 2017-year-end. I royally fucked myself because I didn't set any money aside for taxes. Ended up in debt to some very bad people and things were very dark, I don't like to talk about this time in my life that much.
Chapter 2: WSB Tuition (2018)
First learned about WSB in 2018 from the infamous FB ER put play by YungBillionaire turning ~$28K into $451K overnight. That sounded fun.
Quickly learned about options but most importantly about FDs, tendies, and the power of memes.
Back then it was all about trade wars and hanging at the whim of commander cheeto's supple tweets.
I have fond memories of:
  • Apparently the first stock I ever bought on Robinhood was HMNY... thanks Robinhood Recap for the reminder of my retarded-ness
  • Grew my first set of winkles on my smooth brain with AMC calls. The thesis was that their Stubs A-List subscription was doing pretty well according to /AMCsAList back then
  • Went all-in MTCH weekly puts with $12K clenching my stomach in the fetal position when all of a sudden there was a lawsuit and I tripled my account in minutes, pure luck
Still ended up losing $30K and swore off options forever... until 2020 where I lost another $10k in options. Fucking weeklies man, they're like if cocaine and blackjack made a dopamine-infused baby
WTF is up with the snowflakes Robinhood? So gay, instant short when it IPOs

Ghosts of Christmas Present

Chapter 3: Road to $1M+ (2020)
Let's start with the receipts since that's what everyone's interested in:
Proof that I started Feb 2020 with only $35K
Vanguard is my 401k provider and their self-directed brokerage is provided by TD Ameritrade which is why you see screenshots from two different apps. Started the year with $11K in 401k, deposited $26K more in Jan and then started trading in Feb with $35K. The $49K withdrawal in June was for a 401k loan to buy a Tesla.
Looking at this all-time graph gets me so hard
In my first run up to June, turned $35k into $850K (APT, CODX, NCLH, CHWY) and decided my luck was too good and needed to "cool down". Decided to withdraw $50k for a Tesla and stayed away from the markets for a good 3 months thinking the market was going to go back down again...
But it didn't, the market kept rallying and I got the tendie tingles. My first move in Sept was to go all-in on WORK and bought at the high of $35 and was immediately down -30% thanks to their shit ER. They recovered a bit in the weeks afterwards and then jumped into CRSR which made me a millionaire and then GME. GME also shit the bed with a -20% ER but recovered swiftly thanks to Lord Cohen and recently jumped into STIC for that final spike up.
Chapter 4: Explaining every trade
Proof of every gain/loss I've ever traded (except APT history which was in Vanguard)
My strategy is going all-in on a single stock all-shares. The idea is to have a thesis and conviction with that trade. I stay in the trade until the thesis is invalidated or another opportunity arises, it's a simple strategy and it's worked for me so far. My account does not allow options or margin trading.
Here's a few theses and history I remember in hopes folks can learn something:
  • APT/CODX - It was obvious to me in Jan/Feb that this coronavirus was the real deal. The trick was to look at the facts and not the noise. There was a fake viral video of blood-curdling screams from Wuhan apartments that was so obviously fake but western media loved it. On the other hand, Wuhan built a makeshift hospital in just 10 days, that's real action the government took and showed me how seriously dangerous this new virus was going to be. So I loaded up on APT, a mask stock, and rode it up and then switched to CODX, a testing stock, and rode that up from $11 to $24 selling right before their botched ER (conf call with no queue and everyone talking over each other lol)
  • NCLH - Saw a curious spike in volume on May 14 with a move upward, piqued my tendie tingles again. Decided it was worth an all-in at $10.57 as the support of $10 was pretty strong. The mood at the time was that coronavirus was waning (I knew it was wrong but the market was emotionally optimistic) and fortunately it caused NCLH to moon and I sold at $19.75 on June 4 even though it kept mooning to $26 over the next 2 days
  • CHWY - Got a dog, it's cute. Pets + E-Commerce during a pandemic, easy money. Bought at $41 and sold at $46 only because I thought it was moving kind of slowly. Well I was pretty wrong, now it's at $104
  • SQQQ/TVIX - I tried being a gay bear for an hour and lost money. Don't ever be a gay bear
  • CRSR - Been watching a ton of tech review and PC building YouTube channels and subreddits and the "enthusiast" crowd is definitely larger and has bigger wallets than people think. There is fucking keyboard typing ASMR now and ebay reviewers THANKING scalpers for charging them 2-3x MRSP. Biggest generational jump in GPU and CPU in a while and recently IPO-ed Corsair was definitely gonna benefit from this new generation of gamers was my thesis. Went all-in at $24 and sold at $36 after a non-stop run even though it kept running all the way to $51. No regrets, profit is profit.
  • WORK - It was the only "WFH" stock that didn't moon yet, thought it deserved a chance was my thesis. Went all-in at the tippy top of $35 on Sept 2 and it immediately kept crashing all the way to $24 in 5 days. Fortunately it recovered a bit and sold at $32 for a loss since I gave up hope and it seemed to be running out of steam
Chapter 5: GME Gang Confession
Now: I have a confession to make. My conviction for the Gamestop MOASS is insane. Had 88,233 shares at $13.04 buy-in with a $120 stop limit. Listening to this 90-min podcast of Uberkikz11 going on about how he knows more about this company than any mortal human should gets me so friken hard every time.
But. That -20% ER drop hurt me on a spiritual level. Watching my account go from $1.5M to $1.1M at one point gave me Taco Bell-levels of stomach cramps.
So when it bounced back to $15-16 on no news on Fri, Dec 18, I felt like I needed to "cool down" again. It was going into the holidays with a British virus mutation on the way and hedge funds manipulating to get their holiday bonuses, it felt kind of dangerous. And no way Ryan Cohen would be working with his lawyers on something that fast over the holidays, right?
So I sold all my GME at $15.50.
Then on Mon, Dec 21 morning, Lord Cohen drops his new 13D/A... but the stock price stayed flat all day. The Lord gave me a chance. A whole day to get back in. Unfortunately I didn't take it.
And then Tue, Dec 22 all tendies broke loose, the squeezening. +25% gain. deepfuckingvalue dropping his massive dong in another update. I waddled back and forth in my fetal position. Missed out on ~$300K gain while watching everyone freak out. Felt exactly like this:
Can't feel my dick at all...
Chapter 6: Barking on a STIC
While waddling and scrolling on my phone, I happened to stumble across this post about STIC and BarkBox. Not sure why pound_salt_ deleted the original post but at the time, it was the only post about it on WSB
I was pretty familiar with BarkBox and started researching, it seemed super un-discovered. I liked what I saw: Pets. E-commerce. Subscription. SPAC. Basic white bitches spoiling dogs. This might be worth an all-in.
So on Wed, Dec 23 morning I decided to make a move. All-in at $14.42.
Then I started writing everything I had learned and posted it all in my DD post at 1:46PM ET because I thought it was worth sharing what I found https://www.reddit.com/wallstreetbets/comments/kiypqq/sir_jack_a_lots_next_move_all_in_stic_bark_merge
The price was $14.25 at the time of posting and frankly, price was oddly flat at $14.25 pretty much all day. Lots of people got to buy in at this price. Why did it take me so long to write it? I had actual work meetings all morning and wrote it during my lunch break
Then by the luck of the gods, apparently the CEO of BarkBox, Matt Meeker, went onto CNBC at 3:20PM ET and it started mooning. On Thurs, Dec 24 I awoke to a 20% pop and shared my gains for ya'll to salivate over. Complete. Luck.

Ghost of Christmas Future

Chapter 7: What's next?
Let me be clear. I stand by every word of conviction I mentioned in all my GME and STIC posts, those are still my favorite H1 2021 plays. Holding STIC until merger would most definitely get you some massive gains.
But I'm a swing momentum trader. If I feel like something is running out of steam, has a risk of a rug pull, or another stock has potential to pick up steam with lesser downside, that's when I usually jump around.
I'm not happy with just a +25% in 3 months. I want a +25% compounded on +25% compounded on another +25% in the same 3 month time period.
On Monday, Dec 28 I will probably sell STIC and move all into CRSR again. From technical charting perspective, I'm loving the setup and the magical crayons are telling me we're at the support again and this should bounce in anticipation of strong Q4 earnings.
Now: this is not a ding on STIC or GME, I stand by my 2x-10x claims at some point in H1 2021. It will eventually get there but it might also dip and rise again and I want to swing that dip and rise.
Let me spell it out for some retards: because STIC moon-ed so fast, I want to sell to capture profits and hopefully buy back in on a dip. If STIC had not mooned yet, I would still be holding STIC for a more gradual moon-ing to let my thesis play out. If STIC does not dip but keeps mooning, then I will not chase and happily watch other diamond hands enjoy their tendies.

Q&A / AMAA

I'm fucking tired of answering the same repeated idiotic questions. Let this Q&A serve as an artifact and please link it to new retards. I will also proceed to debunk every single fucking false claim I've read in my last few posts. Also feel free to AMAA in the comments, I'll be replying all day.
  1. How often do you jack off? At least 2 times a day and always before I make a trade for that post-nut clarity
  2. Haha you're going to owe so much in taxes - Nope, this is all in my 401k which in the US means I don't owe taxes until I withdraw. Fucking compounding gains for years bitch
  3. Why are you making such risky trades? My goal is 8 digits or bust, that's my /fatfire number so I can finally quit this wageslave game. It's so obviously stacked against us and requires a lottery moment to reach escape velocity to play on New Game+ where I can live on $400k 4% SWR on $10M. This is my lottery moment and I'm leaning all the fucking way in. That's why I'm chad-ing it up and trying to TIME the market, meaning riding shit up and then jumping back into shit for another ride up. Fuck you Warren Buffet and your 90 y/o "time in the market" boomer bullshit. The next pandemic in 2025 might wipe us all out anyways, I ain't got time to wait for retirement. Gotta will it into existence. YOLO
  4. How are you so good at this? I study everything. Technicals. Charts. Support levels. Volume spikes. Short interest. Executive teams. Rumors. Customer sentiment. Employee morale. Insider trading. MSM manipulation. Comparable market caps. ER reports. Upgrade reports. SEC filings. Meme potential. I literally watch and study every facet I can about a company, and do so quickly.
  5. What's your trading strategy? All-in on a single stock all-shares. The idea is to have a thesis and conviction with that trade. I stay in the trade until the thesis is invalidated or another opportunity arises, it's a simple strategy and it's worked for me so far.
  6. Why do you post on WSB? Internet points is fucking fun. I was banned for like 30 minutes yesterday (on "accident" apparently) and having $200k+ gains without the ability to share was just not the same
  7. How do I follow your next move? Oh just follow my discord/newslett -- no fuck that shit. I don't do discord or newsletters or twitter or anything else. I'll keep posting on WSB until 8 digits or bust (or ban), you can guarantee that.
  8. Why do you remove the time on your screenshots? I'm cropping shit on my iPhone and my username is between the portfolio number and the top bar. Otherwise I'd love to friken show off my perpetual 69% battery level
  9. 15% isn't a real YOLO - I am literally shoving my entire net worth into a single stock every single time. Correct it's not the same as blackjack or FDs where if I got it wrong, I could lose everything but it's still fucking riskier than any ETF or financial advisor with their cuckold MBA would ever advise. One 15% play may not be impressive but compounded together is how you get this 50X in less than a year
  10. Where's PLTR or TSLA? Notice I never once touched PLTR, TSLA, NIO, XBEV, MVIS, etc or any of the other meme stocks WSB loves. That's because I hate being a sheep and following after the curve. I try to find shit right before the curve starts (usually indicated by a volume spike) and most WSB meme stocks are up way too high for my risk tolerance. Too much at stake to lose to a random rug pull moment.
  11. Hey I think I'm your cousin, can I get some money? No you fuck, stop being poor.
  12. Hey do you wanna fuck my ex-wife? Already did, next
  13. You're just using WSB to pump and dump on us - No you fucking idiot.
  • First: look at my post history, I NEVER make a hard recommendation for people to buy a stock. I only share my gains, losses, or DD because it's fucking funny to see how ya'll react. Whether people want to follow my move or not is 100% up to people. Do your own fucking DD and figure out when you want to sell according to your own thesis/risk tolerance.
  • Second: You folks keep asking me for my next move. Well how and when the fuck should I share it? If I post something in the morning, it's stuck in /new for a while until it gets enough upvotes to hit the front page and by then it's already afternoon or market close and the stock might have already done who knows what. That's not pump and dumping, that's just a delayed effect of how Reddit's algorithm works. Anything on the front page is essentially 5-15 hours old news and you need to determine if the state of the world is still the same or be a sheep and chase. It's the same thing once you hear Aunt Cathie or Boomer Cramer mention a stock and it trickles down to you, you're chasing after others have already gotten in
  • Third: My $1.5M is not enough to move any real-volume stock. I don't touch OTC or low-volume shit. For STIC: I have 97K shares and on average 2-4M shares are traded every day for STIC so my account is a like a drop of whale cum in the ocean
  • Fourth: Real pump and dumpers are the shitty scum on the earth. Spend any time in /pennystocks or some Discord or Stocktwits and holy shit, these scum run fucking operations. I've even seen paid newsletters where the highest tier gets the tip "early" to buy in and then the lowefree tiers get the tip which causes the pump for the early buyers to literally dump on and create bag holders on non-existant volume too
  • Fifth: Listen to what DoubleKillGG and his big brain figured out the rest of you retards could not:
The fact is that SIR_JACK_A_LOT is a swing trader. Yes he pumps his stocks and closes relatively quickly but he doesn't pump shit stocks. If you bought any of his positions when he posted you'd be up on everything. A pump and dump requires the dump part where investors are left holding a stock that is worth less than when they bought it. He did, however, break wsb's rule #4; STIC's market cap is below $1B.
His positions closed and what they're worth currently
NCLH: Exit at 17.95. Current share price is 24.51
CHWY: Exit at 44.35. Current share price is 104.10
NCLH (again): Exit at 19.16. Current share price is 24.51
CRSR: Exit at 35.57. Current share price is 36.70
PTON: Exit at 109.46. Current share price is 163.60
GME: Exit at 15.96. Current share price is 20.26
*\*Exits are estimations from his posts*
STIC: Posted DD when share price was around 14.25. Current share price is 17.85
Shout-outs

List of bugs that came with update 1.31

Since i've seen lots of questions and confusion about this update, i decided to do some research by surfing through this subreddit. I've made a list of all of the bugs reported since the update went live, hope it helps.
"Invisibility/invincibility glitch, again. (Like the helicopter glitch, they fixed this one by removing Armored Royal)" - it's back. People figured it out once again how to glitch into invisibility. This is probably the most game breaking glitch, and It seems to only happen in warzone... ~~but its possible that it might work on Ground War aswell since it might involve Trucks and some c4 ~~(Thanks to user u/Tiff_shadow for alerting this one). There are also reports about these glitches being practically invincible while invisible.
Update: Raven fixed this glitch by removing Armored Royale since it was happening in there in the same fashion as the previous invisibility glitch.
'Unable to change operators in both Warzone and Modern Warfare. (according to Raven Software's twitter, this one is fixed)" - This is by far the most common bug I've seen being reported in this subreddit. The bug supposedly takes you back to the lobby/main menu after you tried to change your operator (not the skins, but the operators themselves). I personally didn't encounter this bug and was still able to change between operators in both games without any problem.
Edit: Here's a poll created by the user u/cwanger showing how many affected users there are across platforms. Not everyone is suffering with this issue, which probably means reinstalling the game might be a solution.
Update: Raven Software twitted about a fix for this problem going live, but the missions bug (listed as a visual bug down below) is still live, makes me wonder why didn't they fixed it alongside this one.
"Hitmarkers not showing up" - Sometimes, when you hit another player, the hitmarkers fail to show up, you hear the sound (although some people reported hearing no audio) and you get the elimination notification on the screen plus the xp(there are now reports that the xp doesn't show up on screen). Still, the hitmarkers always show up if you hit a headshot.
Edit: Also, lots of people are complaining about reticles disappearing (thanks to u/i_always_had_class for the tip).
Update: I've experienced this one already. I had my reticle "disappear" everytime i died and respawned. It gets replaced by a bleeping white dot and after a second or two it comes back to your selected reticle. Im under the impression that the game is having a hard time loading the reticle, therefore the delay. Might have something to do with weapon tweaks they made in Warzone.
Update: Raven Software acknowledged this issue on twitter and said they're working on it. Let's hope they fix this one quickly.
"Camos changing ingame" - When you take a weapon with a mastery camo, it will change to the next camo (Example: if you go with gold, it will change to platinum) even if you don't own it. It happens after you score a kill or after you die, and even after a killstreak is used. This could also be happening due to the weapon tweaks made in Warzone.
"Visual bugs" - There are a couple of visual bugs in Modern Warfare with this update. Whenever you hovered over any menu tab (operators, loadout, store, etc...), a blue box would show up to indicate you were on that tab at the moment. Now it doesn't show up anymore, the text of the tab just goes from white to grey, it looks awfull. Here's a picture showing the difference (courtesy of u/MaydaX1).
Plus now you will have operator's missions that you didn't own before show up in the operator menu, and if you check operator by operator, you will see that there's lots of operator's missions unlocked, even missions that come with bundles, like the Gaz operator missions. You can preview every reward and requirements present in the missions, however, you cannot progress in this missions in any way possible, so this goes as a visual bug. User u/allthiscereal mentions some of the operators that have this bug.
"Weapons aren't leveling up" - (Thanks to u/ChrisAley1 for pointing this one) Weapons arent leveling up after the update, doesn't matter how many kills you score, you will receive 0xp everytime. Camos are still unlockable. It seems that there isn't any way to go around this atm
Update: You can work this around by completing contracts in plunder (thanks to u/sbdog for this idea)
"Different sizes of the upgrade" - Some people complained about the size of this update. For some it came as a 11GB update and for others it came as a 84GB update. I got the 11GB.
Apparently the pc version of this update is about 17GB. Which raises the question, why a difference of 6GB? (Thanks to u/dthack6)
"Tier skips being removed from MW bundles" - This isn't a bug but still there are some people upset about this. Either way, every MW bundle that came with a tier skip had it removed.
"No level XP after a match": I haven't seen this one yet, It just happened to me. I was in a "Hardcore Kill Confirmed" and i was getting no xp per kill. I thought that it had something to do with the hitmarkers, but by the end of the game, i got no XP whatsoever.
Edit: some people are now complaining about this too. There's even talks about not being able to progress in the battle pass. What the hell.
"Crashes" - Some people complained about consistent crashes after the update. Many people are reporting constant crashes (mostly) on both playstations (Slim, Pro and PS5) specifically after this update, while before it wasn't crashing. It might be possible to fix it by reinstalling the game since not everyone is having this issue.
"Shadow banning" - Multiple people (myself included, in warzone) are matching in lobbies with a ping higher than normal, leading to severe lagging and constant freezing (everything except you freezes ingame). This could mean 2 things; 1: The update completely broke matchmaking; Or 2: People are getting shadow banned after this update without any particular reason. In the activision support page is possible to find various reports about this issue plus some other bugs listed in this post (thanks to user u/WeshO_ for posting this link plus to various other users on tipping this issue).
"Removed Shoot the Ship/Gaves us a bad playlist" - I know. This isn't a bug neither, but i think everyone deep down really hated the fact that shoot the ship was up for 2 weeks and all of the sudden was removed. This could easily be overlooked but apart from the fact that most of the people here love shoot the ship, we got a pretty bad playlist. Some people like it, some people not, but compared to what we got in the past 2 weeks it looks pretty weak and this whole list of bugs just makes it even worse.
"Aim-assist is broken" - Apparently your aim doesn't drift anymore when an enemy passes by you. User u/Alpha-Leeds (thank you one more time!) mentioned this problem. There has been some mentions of this bug here and there in this subreddit. This bug can be harder to spot as some people have aim-assist off and just don't notice it at all, but still is a bug that can cost a death or kill for those who use it.
Reminder: Keep in mind that before the update there was still tons of glitches and bugs that date the beta stages of Modern Warfare. The only glitch they were trying to fix in this update was the Stim glitch and they didn't show intention on fixing any other one (for example, your character hands getting replaced by a default skin other than the one you're using as mentioned by user u/JoeyaKangaroo). It really shows how poorly this updates are being made since they are only looking into one major problem while putting the little ones at a corner, so expect some of this bugs being overlooked by them.
I will try to keep this list updated based on the comments. Ever since yesterday there are still new bugs showing up and who knows how many more are left to be discovered. Thanks to everyone for contributing to this list and i hope this answers any question you might have.
Edit: Feel free to share this as much as you like, that way maybe this gets seen by someone at Raven or Infinity. I only ask for you to add the link to this post so people can come and search through the comments in case they have any question.
Update: So far Raven only "fixed" the invisibility glitch and the operator's bug listed above. They have also acknowledged the hitmarkers bug, but that one still awaits for a fix. What's bugging me is that every news report in the internet doesn't mention how bad Modern Warfare is after this update, their focus is on Warzone as every bug is mentioned to ONLY affect Warzone. This makes it so that there is little to no talk at all of Modern Warfare game breaking issues outside this subreddit.
Modern Warfare may be reaching it's tragic death if a patch isnt made soon... The plans for integration of MW with Cold War showed a little bit of hope for MW for the future... And maybe that was the problem since MW was going strong than Cold War for a while...
May you still find any happiness playing this game.

Misconceptions regarding Dogecoin

NOTE THIS ARTICLE IS SLIGHTLY DATED. I MADE A NEW UPDATED POST - VERSION 1.1 OF THIS SAME ARTICLE. THE INFORMATION IS BASICALLY THE SAME - JUST MORE CURRENT link here: https://www.reddit.com/dogecoin/comments/lfhomy/misconceptions_regarding_dogecoin_revised_version/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Misconceptions regarding Dogecoin. This information below is important. I ask that you please take the time to read this entire post before making judgment or commenting. My discord group of over 100 people have grouped together the majority of the most asked questioned and misunderstandings regarding Dogecoin, into the following 22 key points. Please read them below.
1) What is Dogecoin? Dogecoin (/ˈdoʊdʒkɔɪn/ DOHJ-koyn, code: DOGE, symbol: Ð) is a cryptocurrency invented by software engineers Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, who decided to create a payment system that is instant, fun, and free from traditional banking fees. Dogecoin features the face of the Shiba Inu dog from the popular "Doge" meme as its logo and namesake. It was introduced on December 6, 2013, and quickly developed its own online community reaching a market capitalization of US $5,382,875,000 on January 28, 2021. [Wikipedia, 20210203]
2) Why Dogecoin? For the Lolz. Well, not quite. Initially as a purely meme-driven alternative to the likes of Bitcoin and Litecoin, Dogecoin in-fact boasts very low transaction fees and fast transaction times, very little network congestion, and most importantly, is designed to be used as a daily means of exchange, like your morning cup of coffee. Also, it is really fun, and who doesn't like the Dog ?!
1/2) What Is Dogecoin? And why Dogecoin? Back a few years ago, some crazy people banded together in support of a cryptocurrency known as Dogecoin. Similar to other cryptocurrencies, Dogecoin, the people's crypto, finds itself with the support of hundreds if not thousands of individuals pushing for this currency to succeed. But what is that?
Unless you have been absent from every social bubble, you may have heard of Bitcoin. For the purpose of this explanation, you will find that Bitcoin is not exactly an easy thing to equate to Dogecoin, but lets think about the criteria of a Cryptocurrency. Bitcoin did not find its foothold overnight. In fact, it took several years. A lot of people fought tooth and nail for their belief in the coin. Crypto, in a nutshell, is a decentralized form of currency that finds its value in a combination of individual asset involvement, ease or difficulty in security of an exchange, creating a method of reliable, secure, trustworthy exchange, and other reasons. Think of it like this: to exchange goods and services without currency, one must barter. I can barter a service (a haircut, for example) towards someone who needs a haircut, and in exchange they can barter a good or service to me. Currency then becomes an "IOU" (I Owe yoU) so that, if somebody needs me to cut their hair, they can give me an IOU for a good or service they control. When enough people begin adopting this, a centralized currency eventually takes hold. Crypto seeks to take this a step further and, insteal of relying on building up a centalization in terms of valuable metals or debt, it is built up solely on the exchange of goods and services. Dogecoin, compared to other cryptocurrencies, finds itself in a strange position where the origins did NOT see it soaring to the moon in any situation. Funny how things can change in time. Dogecoin has pros and cons to it. Comparing it to other cryptos, it does not face a supply cap like Bitcoin does. It is not a directly equated asset, such as how Bitcoin can be attributed as a digital gold asset. Mining dogecoin is also much simpler (comparitively) and does not face difficulty spikes, a source of Bitcoin slow-down. In essence, in 50 years, Dogecoin will still be around, still be mined, still be traded. Bitcoin will cease to be created, hoarded, and become the digital currency of the affluent.
Step 3) Places to buy dogecoin places where you can spend Dogecoin?
Refer to dogecoin posts by the moderators
4) Cryptocurrencies vs stocks. The main differences between them. When comparing crypto to stocks, the main thing to keep in mind is that cryptocurrencies have few if any regulations applied to them. It is still the "wild west" of trading. You can be scammed, skimmed, pumped-dumped, as so forth, much more often and more easily than with stocks. Terminology is similar to exact between the two, but both require a certain mindset. Crypto is almost always a long-haul game, where stocks can be short play or long haul.
5) Dogecoin vs Bitcoin - their competitive advantages and disadvantages. Many cryptocurrencies have a higher degree of scarcity in comparison with FIAT (e.g. the US Dollar). For example Bitcoin / BTC has a strictly limited supply. And even though Dogecoin is not strictly limited, it is still a lot more scare in terms of supply than the US dollar. This simply means that if more people want to hold BTC or Doge versus the limited supply of the respective coin, the value of the cryptocurrency increases.
6) Is Dogecoin a meme or should it be taken seriously? We have all witnessed the power of a meme, the depths it can reach in society, especially in recent years. We have seen it many times before with video games, consoles, Oreos, or as of late even toilet paper... A meme has inherent value in the form of “widespread information”. A meme can spread an idea across diverse communities, and even entire countries literally overnight. This can bring about lasting effects on culture and society. If correctly taken advantage of, Doge can become the dominant meme currency of the internet, and amass real-world value just by being a popular, recognisable meme itself. This is where the saying “Dogecoin is the people’s coin” comes from.
7) Mining Dogecoin and the history of Dogecoin). How a new currency entered the market.
mining is the process of creating new cryptocurrency by solving a computational puzzle. mining is necessary to maintain the ledger of transactions upon which cryptocurrency is based. Miners have become very sophisticated over the last several years using complex machinery to speed up mining operations. Approximately 600,000 dogecoins are produced per hour and 5,256,000,000 per year,
8) Circulation of currencies. The importance of buying, selling, and holding - and the differences between them. To briefly explain this, a lot of people have been saying “buy and hold” or “I’m never selling!” - which in itself is great start. But there remains a lot of misinformation around the topic, for example that simply "buying and holding Doge" will drive up the price indefinitely. Unfortunately, that is just not true. Buying, holding, and selling are all intricately connected with each other. ALL of those three states are essential for a (digital) currency to flourish. Holding does neither hurt or raise the value of the asset, but rather it helps to establish a baseline, which is also called "setting a floor". Those who have diligently kept on holding their coins, have allowed Dogecoin to stabilize at roughly 0.03 USD cents for the past few days. Remember, this remains a huge gain from where Dogecoin has been just weeks ago. The reason the price is not changing much from this baseline right now is because few are buying and few are selling their Dogecoin, specifically due to topics which will be covered in other sections here. However, an active circulation of a currency is critical to establishing it as an effective means of exchanging goods and setting it up for long term growth. The best way to increase the overall value of the currency in the long run is by eventually by exchanging your coins for goods, services, or just by tipping and trading with other Dogecoin holders. The value of any means of exchange is fundamentally driven by supply and demand. If two parties agree that X amount of asset A is roughly worth the same as Y amount of asset B, you effectively have established a market.
9) Establishing a floor or a baseline. Due to other current issues, such as "RH" and other platforms artificially delaying FIAT-to-Crypto exchanges, these trends may appear strange at first sight, but those who continue holding onto their Doge are affecting or rather creating the floor. The floor is essentially the lowest value Dogecoin will drop to at current market conditions. The floor is currently 0.03 USD cents. Which is up from 0.008 USD cents just a few months ago.
10) Inflation and deflation Infinite supply / no cap vs cap in regarding to cryptocurrency
Inflation and deflation are common economic terms used to explain the change in the inherent value of a currency. This means that that 1 US Dollar today does not have the same value or “worth” as it did, for example, in 1950. Inflation is a situation of rising prices in the economy. A more exact definition of inflation is a sustained increase in the general price level in an economy. Deflation on the other hand occurs when the inflation rate falls below 0%, that is a negative inflation rate. While inflation reduces the value of a currency over time, a sudden deflation of a currency increases its relative value. This would allow more goods and services to be bought than before with the same amount of currency. Deflation can be a factor in leading to a recession and also result in a deflationary spiral.
10a) What does all this mean with regards to cryptocurrency, specifically Bitcoin versus Dogecoin?
Well - Bitcoin is stagnant or deflationary over time, while Dogecoin is inflationary overtime. This is due to the way they are architected and mined, and how new coins are added into their respective markets - covered in other section. What gets misunderstood is which one is “better” or rather "the lesser evil". Since Dogecoin has an “infinite supply”, how can it maintain value?
10b) You may have read things like: "You're stupid if you buy Dogecoin. It has no value. It has unlimited supply. It's just a stupid meme." Let's look at the US dollar (or essentially any major FIAT currency of your choice). FIAT currency is created out of thin air. It is backed by large sums of debt, and in the normal course of the economy it is inflating endlessly. But FIAT currency does have value. It's a value assigned to it by governments and people, a commonly accepted means for exchange. Again, FIAT does not have a limited supply. In fact, the supply of the US dollar is a lot more inflationary than Doge would ever be. Please think about that for a moment and make up your own mind.
10c) Yes, Dogecoin has a supply growth of about 5 billion coins (that's about 4-5% right now) per year, but why is that a problem, practically speaking? The growth is there to keep transaction fees to a minimum and allow a small, but healthy inflationary tendency, rather than the opposite.
10d) Dogecoin doesn't need a supply limit like Bitcoin, because in the long run it will be much easier to exchange Dogecoin for goods and services, than with other crypto currencies or regular currencies for that matter.
If Bitcoin wants to become a real global currency with buying power, not just a speculation tool to exchange it for a few thousand debt based USD, when it hits a new record high every few months or years, its supply will have to grow inevitably. We have to see the bigger picture! Dogecoin may well climb to one US dollar, but why stop and sell there? Instead, we could build a new, fair, balanced monetary ecosystem based on Dogecoin, not to make a quick profit, but to change the whole world. Our current money is backed by signatures on debt contracts, not on real values. But it works, because we believe in it, even if it will be our downfall if it continues like this. Dogecoin is different. Dogecoin has a set amount of coins entering the market by the minute. There are plenty of spreadsheets out there showcasing exactly how much many Dogecoin will be in circulation at any given moment of time. People get confused because they think inflation is a bad thing, when in fact it is actually beneficial in small quantities and beneficial to the longevity of a currency. Dogecoin doesn't need a supply limit like Bitcoin, because in the long run it will be much easier to exchange Dogecoin for goods and services, than with other crypto currencies or regular currencies for that matter. If Bitcoin wants to become a real global currency with buying power, not just a speculation tool to exchange it for a few thousand debt based USD when it hits a new record high every few months or years, it's supply will have to grow inevitably.
11) Financial aspects of Dogecoin. Who will profit from it? What will happen if Dogecoin has exponential growth? A zero-sum game. Explaining that you only realize a loss or profit at then time of sell.
To clear things up - cryptocurrency is essentially what economist call a Zero Sum Game. A zero-sum game is a mathematical representation of a situation in which each participant's gain or loss of utility is exactly balanced by the losses or gains of the utility of the other participants. What this means is that across a group of people who engage in selling and buying Dogecoin, if one person gains another person loses. For example if you bought at 0.08 and sold at 0.03 someone made a profit of 0.05 cents per Dogecoin while you lost 0.05 cents per Dogecoin. The important thing to understand is that in these situations the only way you truly lose or gain anything is when you sell. You don’t realize your gains or losses until you complete that transaction. What this means is that if Dogecoin does increase exponentially the people who have been holding since the price has been low will gain astronomical returns on their investment, while others who joined late will not.
12) Stability vs Volatility This describes basically how stable something is over a set period of time. Volatility is how much prices change over time. Stabilization of Dogecoin is important for the overall health, however, cryptocurrencies are known to and will likely remain very volatile for the foreseeable future.
13) Pump and dump vs long term growth. "Pump and dump" is a form of securities fraud that involves artificially inflating the price of an owned stock through false and misleading positive statements, in order to sell the cheaply purchased stock at a higher price. Pump and dumps are consider illegal. While a subset of people are trying to pump and dump Dogecoin the legitimate community is focused its long term growth and stability which is achieved through the rest of the topics addressed here
14) Difference between cold storage, internet wallets and Robinhood
Coldstorage - in the cryptocurrency world cold storage refers to physical objects/devices that contain your cryptocurrency.
Wallets are an electronic program of service that stores your cryptocurrency
Robhinhood- as of right now robinhood does not actually give you cryptocurrency when purchased through them. From Robhinhood’s cryptocurrency page: “We don’t currently provide you with access to your wallet or your wallet address. You own the cryptocurrency assets in your account, and you can buy or sell them at any time. We’re evaluating features to allow you to safely transfer coins to and from Robinhood, and we’ll update you when these features are available.” Robhinhood will be addressed in another section.
15) Elon Musk - Is he important for Dogecoin? The impact of celebrities and big business supporting Dogecoin Big business allowing Dogecoin to be supported as means of exchanging goods, and people like Elon musk supporting and backing this cryptocurrency are important to proving its value and legitimacy.
16) Is getting Dogecoin to increase to the equivalent of one US dollar possible? Can and will it really happen? What will change if it does happen? Yes, despite not having a fixed or capped supply, the value of the currency can rise based on its relative value against other currencies in the market. You can find examples of this in the FOREX market where currency pairs are traded, like Euro against US dollar, or US Dollar against Japanese Yen. As the value of Dogecoin rises, more and more businesses will recognise its potential and importance, and subsequently begin to accept it in exchange for goods and services. This will also help to grow the developer community around Dogecoin. In summary, Dogecoin has a way to go and can be improved from its current state, but the potential for greatness is there already today. NEEDS MORE INFORMATION
T
18) Is Dogecoin a product of the Wallstreet Bets movement? What differentiates dogecoin from GME/AMC? Just like some other investment opportunities (Nokia, Blackberry), DOGE was brought into the spotlight amidst the whole GME situation during the previous week. Unlike those stock, however, Doge is not another short squeeze, it is not a stock. It is a cryptocurrency / asset that many people think has potential, despite its Meme origins. Many who feel that they were late for embarking on the GME hype or the Bitcoin train in 2013 respectively, are now looking towards Doge, one of the early alternatives to the original cryptocurrency, Bitcoin. Doge got a lot of interest recently, for example with the Elon Musk tweeting the same week.
19) The situation with Robinhood - Changes in terms and conditions. Disclaimer, it is important to read through Robhinhoods entire terms and conditions to fully under what happened. The information below is just a summary and is not Robhinhoods terms and conditions but an explanation of what happened and why it happened Robhinhood has received high profile backlash in the media recently for their involvement with GME/Wallstreetbets. A lot of the cryptocurrency and Dogecoin community were outraged when they found out that about one week ago Robhinhood stopped allowed instant transfers for their cryptocurrency. Unfortunately, while we may not agree with what happened there they do have a reason for this. Over the past week the sheer amount of people trying to buy cryptocurrency skyrocketed at one instant. When robinhood allowed for instant transfers what they were really doing is essentially “loaning” you money to make trades or purchase cryptocurrency before the funds actually hit Robhinhoods business account. This caused a huge liquidity issue and Robhinhood could not meet the demand. That is why you had to wait 5 business days for your funds to be approved. This is standard practice across multiple brokerage firms before Robhinhood pioneered the instant transfer option. Whether we like it or not, Robhinhood is a power house in their industry and not going away. Robhinhood is one of the most mainstream ways to purchase and sell cryptocurrency and if everyone pulled their money out of Robhinhood the entire cryptocurrency market would collapse which I believe we can all agree no one wants to happen.
20) Feb 4th - Feb 8th Well unfortunately we wanted to get this post out before Robhinhood’s clearance of funds. Went through, but now that they did, you can see what happened. The price immediately skyrocketed. This happened due to the topics we covered above. Now what’s going to happen is the people who are pumping and dumping know that this is coming and will be immediately prepared to sell. This will cause huge volatility with dramatic swings up and down. Nobody knows exactly what’s going to happen this week, but we do know it’s going to be crazy. That is where the diamonds holders come into play. We need to set a new floor after this swing to show the rest of the world that dogecoin is legitimate and can weather extreme volatility.
Thank you for reading this post in its entirety. It took a large amount of collective effort of people in my discord. I appreciate them to no end. We have over 100 people in that discord and we are here to stay. We are interested in explaining Dogecoin, reducing the scare factor and backing up Dogecoin through economic, social, financial, mathematical theory, etc. Per Dogecoin rules I cannot give out this discord, but if you are interested message me. It goes into greater detail on every one of these topics, with resources, links, articles etc. thank you and above all else remember that at the end of the day this is a meme cryptocurrency from 2013. But the people have spoken, and this is now official the people’s currency as well. Dogecoin🚀🪐🚀

We need to go after DTCC

I know you are angry. Be angry at the right people.
tl;dr – It’s DTCC, not Melvin or Robinhood
Don’t freak out—there’s bad news here, but maybe good news also. I am still holding and plan to continue to do so, but THIS IS NO LONGER ABOUT THE SQUEEZE.
What happened to the squeeze?
We had a chance to push the squeeze but they jerked the rug out from under us when they began restricting trading on the most popular platforms on Thursday, Jan. 28.
There were millions of people all over the world who wanted to buy this stock and were unable to do so. See this screenshot of stock movement on Thursday, January 28 at 11:20 a.m. https://i.imgur.com/fFm79Ph.png (Ignore the prices; I took the screenshots at different times—just look at the patterns) I put the 4 big meme stocks side by side so you can see they all showed their biggest dip at that time—just as millions of retail investors were discovering their trading app would not allow them to purchase these stocks. For comparison, I also put up a shot of Sunoco’s behavior on that day—I just chose at random, thinking “What’s a stock that is unlikely to be purchased by reddit users?” The tl;dr for this image is—the trading restrictions directly affected pretty much only the stocks that were hot on WSB. (PLTR showed a similar pattern for those of you watching that one)
Platforms restrict trading
Many platforms added restrictions, though some removed the restrictions later that day. Others restricted trading later, and then some removed SOME restrictions at different times. (I have heard news from platforms in different parts of the world that restrictions were being implemented as late as Feb. 2)
This is a VERY partial list of the trading platforms that restricted trades, starting January 28:
So did all these companies just decide “Well hully gee, these internet chat people are buying too much stock—let’s put a stop to it!” No, these platforms make their money when you buy and sell stuff—they want you to be able to do so. (Edit: see comment by u/hugesunglasses below for a more precise explanation) The problem is that they don’t actually buy or sell stock themselves—they have to go through a clearing house to do so. MOST of the trading platforms use DTCC (Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation) as a clearing house. Some use more than one, but almost EVERY platform on that list above is a client of DTCC. When you look at the list of their clients, open the excel file for “NSCC Member Directories” and then start scrolling. https://www.dtcc.com/client-centenscc-directories
“But,” you shout, “eTrade’s not on that list!” Yeah, I know. eTrade is run by Morgan Stanley—and they are on the list. That’s one reason that list above is not longer—I got exhausted trying to figure out who owned which platform. You might note that Citadel is a client of DTCC, too. Webull, as near as I can tell, does not use DTCC; they are a client of Apex, another clearing house. And APEX is on that list! https://techcrunch.com/2021/01/28/webull-and-public-remove-restrictions-on-memestocks-after-citing-trade-settlement-firm-as-the-cause/
So who is DTCC and what do they do?
I don’t even know who they are. There are fucking huge. Here’s a partial list of their subsidiaries:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Depository_Trust_%26_Clearing_Corporation#Subsidiaries
Here is what a clearing house does:
The way it works is that a trading platform like Robinhood doesn’t actually buy the stocks for you—they provide a link from you, the retail investor, to a clearing house that does the actual buying. You deposit your cash with the platform, place your trade, RH sends it to the clearing house, and you almost instantaneously “own your stock.” (I won’t cover options here) From your perspective, you put your money in, buy your stocks, and then you own them. What happens behind the scenes is a bit more complicated. Your trading platform accepts your money and places an order with the clearing house to buy, or sell, the stock at the price that existed when you placed your order. The clearing house receives the order and actually buys or sells your stock, then lets your trading platform know it went through. Here’s the tricky part—that process between the platform and the clearing house can take up to two days. Normally, this does not affect the retail investor at all—except during the recent unpleasantness.
In normal times, the clearing house will require the trading platform to prove they have the money to buy the stock, but the trading platform usually only has to show they have 1-3% of the total amount required as collateral. For example, if you place an order to buy a stock for $100, the clearing house requires the trading platform to show liquid funds of 1 – 3 dollars before they will agree to process the trade for that platform. Usually this is not a problem—the platform has plenty of money to cover the normal volume of trades. With the increased interest in stocks such as GME, the volume of trading went up so high that the trading platforms were a little worried about their liquidity. But they could handle it—as long as DTCC only required 1-3% per trade, they looked to make a LOT of money from this new influx of buyers.
What did DTCC do?
Then . . . DTCC raised the collateral requirements for the trading platforms.
“On Jan. 28, after days of turbulence, the DTCC demanded significantly more collateral from member brokers on their GameStop trades. A spokesman for the DTCC wouldn’t specify how much it required from particular firms but said that by the end of the day, industrywide collateral requirements jumped to $33.5 billion, up from $26 billion.”
https://www.bloombergquint.com/quicktakes/what-s-the-dtcc-and-how-did-it-stop-gamestop-mania-quicktake
If I am reading that quote correctly, the collateral requirements for GME ALONE were raised by 7.5 billion dollars on a single day. The requirements may have risen since then.
Robinhood claims their equity requirements rose “ten-fold” as a result of the directive. They make no mention of DTCC in their post—but go back to the DTCC client list. Their clearing house is on it.
https://blog.robinhood.com/news/2021/1/29/what-happened-this-week
Some of the trading platforms like Fidelity had plenty of cash to cover the increased requirements so they had no restrictions on trades (they also have their own clearing house as well as working with DTCC). Other platforms with less liquidity were in a bind. They simply did not have the cash to cover these new requirements.
Platforms like Robinhood had little choice—they had to block purchases of the affected stocks. For a stock like Sunoco, DTCC probably left the requirement of 1-3% alone. For the “meme stonks,” they had the right to raise the collateral requirements as high as 100%.
So what does this mean?
It means DTCC fucking OWNS this business and you do what they say if you want to play.
I actually feel sorry for Vlad in his awkward interview. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuCcchMOsKE I think most people thought, “Oh these little shits are in bed with Citadel and Melvin and trying to protect their friends!” Au contraire. DTCC holds the leash here and when they jerked it, Robinhood had no choice but to comply.
The interview reminds me of those hostage videos you sometimes see. You know the hostage wants to scream “THEY ARE FORCING ME TO DO THIS!” while robotically stating out loud, “I. Am. Doing. This. Of. My. Own. Free. Will.” But there’s a gun behind the camera and if they say anything wrong, bang.
In this case, the “gun” is DTCC’s power threatening Robinhood’s ability to continue to do business at ALL. The DTCC is connected to all the big money players—Robinhood is small potatoes. We’ve heard people screaming “Robinhood sucks!” for nearly a week – has anyone heard, “DTCC sucks!”? Have you even heard of them?
The power of DTCC is mind-boggling
Well, that’s what I’m saying. DTCC sucks. They have the ability to manipulate the entire market. Usually we can’t see it, but look again at that side-by-side image of the meme stock prices. That happened right after DTCC set new requirements. https://i.imgur.com/fFm79Ph.png
Something unprecedented had happened with certain stocks and it could not be allowed to continue.
“The volume of GameStop shares surged to over 177 million on Monday and Tuesday, dropping to a still-high 91 million on Wednesday and 42 million on Thursday.” https://www.thinkadvisor.com/2021/01/28/schwab-td-ameritrade-put-brakes-on-some-gamestop-trading/
That big volume drop on Thursday happened as retail investors were blocked from buying on their platforms and scrambling to move to others. You think retail investors suddenly lost half their interest in the stocks on Thursday and that is why volume dropped? If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you . . .
This had been going on slowly for long time but then interest started to rise, Elon Musk tweeted about it on Tuesday and interest skyrocketed. It went completely viral shortly after that and interest rose and rose and rose. People ALL OVER THE WORLD wanted to buy these stocks. That really could have caused some serious damage to the big money guys. DTCC did not permit that to happen. I’m sure their talking heads, if they have any, will have very long blah blah reasons for what they did, and maybe their intentions really were good (haha). But, good intentions or not, the FACT is that DTCC has the POWER to manipulate the entire worldwide market ANYTIME THEY CHOOSE.
What now?
Okay, so I guess that’s about it. What to do now? I plan to contact my representatives and tell them to look at the role of DTCC, not Robinhood. I’m not hopeful—most politicians are beholden to big money as much as the trading platforms are. But maybe we can shine some light on this.
I am sure everything DTCC did was legal. I am sure their contracts with all these companies state, “We have the right to raise collateral prices without notice for any reason.”
That’s what I intend to fight. A VERY simply regulation could prevent something like this from happening again, and give a bit more power to the retail investor. To wit: “No company acting as a clearing house for stock purchase may raise their collateral requirements without 30-days’ notice that they intend to do so. Trading platforms must inform their clients immediately if such an increase is announced.”
But wait! What about Melvin?
Y’all, Melvin exited their short positions on Tuesday, January 26. All the talk about “They would have to buy to exit and we didn’t see the volume!” Yadda yadda. They did NOT have to buy stocks to exit their position—they could have, but it looks like what they did was simply sell their shorts to another hedge fund. They lost a lot, yeah, but they are out. They cut their losses and ran.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT MELVIN. There’s still shorts out there—but Melvin is out.
Look past the hedge funds to the real Voldemort.
And the squeeze?
So is the squeeze squoze? I dunno. I don’t think it’s the issue now. I have been taking screenshots of my portfolio every day to show the movement in conjunction with the DTCC restrictions. I plan to hold (but I am in for less than 1000 bucks) And maybe if we can expose the manipulation, then we might be able to recoup our losses. Maybe.
In the meantime, you do you.
Here's some fucking emojis 🚀💎🐵💩🦍😡

Section 1: Basic Information

Your first airsoft guns is one of the most important purchases you will make while playing airsoft. As your first gun, it should be reliable, affordable, versatile, easy to work on (V2/V3), high performance, and compatible with as many upgrades and accessories as possible. This means buying and AEG, or Automatic electric gun or Sub-Machine gun (also known as an SMG). Forget about buying sniper rifles, pistols, gas guns, and other exotic airsoft guns until you have more experience, money, and at least one backup weapon.
To play airsoft it is HIGHLY recommended that you have the following items:

All airsoft AEG's come with a magazine out of the box (sometimes a mid cap), but is highly recommended that you have 2-3 of these while you are playing. Eye protection is the most important thing in airsoft. All airsoft fields/sites require you to wear goggles/masks while playing. For more information check section 8.

Section 2: How much does airsoft cost?
Video link

Although airsoft is markedly cheaper than other shooting sports, it's still an expensive hobby. Site fees vary greatly but will typically exceed $25 for a day's play. It is reasonably common to spend in excess of $400 buying, upgrading and accessorizing a single airsoft gun. Gear and clothing can be similarly expensive. It is possible to play airsoft very successfully with just basic equipment, but even the cheapest possible equipment required to play airsoft safely will still cost you a minimum of $100. If you want a competitive advantage, or to play more advanced simulation games, you should expect significant additional expenditure.
It is common for users to approach airsoft with unrealistically low budgets. If you have less than $100-150 to spend, you are not realistically in a position to play airsoft. We will not compromise your safety by recommending you skimp on personal protective equipment. We refuse to recommend Low Power Electric Guns ('LPAEGs'), spring pistols and other ultra-low-budget airsoft guns because their performance is so poor, and their life expectancy so short, that they represent a false economy. You may still be able to afford to rent gear at an organized airsoft site, but not for more than a handful of games at most.
FAQs:
1. I think I can afford to play. What's the next step?
If you haven't already, read the rest of this guide.
2. Why are you lying to me? I can easily find airsoft guns that cost less than $100.
In airsoft, as in most aspects of life, there is a minimum price below which a product cannot be made fit for purpose. It is possible to buy something approximately gun-shaped for less than $100. Do not confuse this with the ability to buy a gun that will be sufficiently powerful, reliable and long-lived enough to play airsoft with. LPEGs, spring pistols and ultra-low-budget airsoft guns are utterly inadequate for airsoft play and will break rapidly, at which point you will be back to having no gun and will also have lost whatever you spent. In addition, you still need to buy suitable Personal Protective Equipment ('PPE'), which is an absolute prerequisite of play and not free. THE ONLY EXCEPTION to this rule is spring shotguns. The tri-Shot ones. They shoot anywhere from 3-6 bb’s at a time and most shells hold about 30 rounds. These shotguns are only optimal for CQB arenas and highly urban fields. They have extremely limited range so keep that in mind.

3. The best beginner rifles (AK/M4 variants) for $100-250
Video link

To get into the hobby of airsoft, you will need to have a decent budget. Most beginneintermediate guns cost anywhere from $100-250, but that cost does not include bb's, magazines, batteries, and a charger. Some guns come with a wall charger and a battery, but most users (including myself) recommend throwing the wall chargers away. This is simply because the wall chargers are normally very low quality. Most players recommend starting airsoft with an M4 or AK style variant AEG. Please note that Lancer Tactical rifles are NOT included in this guide, please check section 16 for more information on this topic. Note that the current Covid-19 pandemic is still ongoing, so things might read out of stock on the websites listed. I would check other websites if the items listed are not shown. Commonly recommended choices are:

4. Things to generally avoid when playing
Video link

Airsoft is an honor sport, when you get hit, raise your hand high and display your dead rag. Also yell “HIT” as loud as you can so the other player who is shooting you knows that you are dead. Not displaying your dead rag can lead to being shot more than you want to. Calling someone else’s hits are normally frowned upon as you’re going to cause problems on the field and airsoft drama is not worth it. If someone is suspected of cheating, call a ref/marshal over to observe the player. When you are in the field/game area, DO NOT TAKE OFF YOUR EYEPRO!! EYEPRO is the #1 important thing in airsoft. If a bb hits your eye, you more than likely will be blind. Keep your EYEPRO on at all times while in the field. If you are fogging up, walk off the field. Avoid overshooting other players, once you see a dead rag or a red rag come up, or hear “HIT” stop shooting them. Dead men tell no tales! If you are dead, and a teammate asks where you got shot from, simply say: “dead men don’t talk” and walk back to your respawn.

5. What should you bring to your first airsoft game
Video link

So you’ve finally bought your gun and gear and you’re heading out to your first game. As mentioned previously, you want to make sure you come prepared. As well as your AEG, you want to make sure your batteries are charged and you brought an extra magazine or two. You also want to bring WATER! Staying hydrated is one of the most important things you need to do in airsoft. Being dehydrated will ruin your day and cause problems for you. Also make sure to have a good amount of bb’s for the day. it is highly advised that you wear boots while playing, running shoes can get dirty easily and there will be mud somewhere on the field that you will end up stepping on and getting wet. An extra pair of socks is also a good idea!

  1. What weight bb should I be using?
Video link

This question is very common with a lot of newer players. LPAEG’s (Löw powered Airsoft guns) and Walmart airsoft guns use .12 gram bb’s. DO NOT RUN THESE IN AN AEG! This bb’s are cheap and will break the internals of your rifle. You don’t want to throw your money away do you? I didn’t think so. The lowest weight you can use in your replica is .20 gram bb’s. There are a lot of brands out there for bb’s: Elite Force, BLS,, HPA, KWA and so on. All of them are good brands to buy from. If you are planning on playing indoor, most users will recommend .2-.28 bb’s for the best range and efficiency. If you are planning on playing outdoor, using .28’s and higher is optimal for the best range. Just keep this in mind: the heavier weight, the slower the bb travels.

  1. Can I start airsoft as a sniper?
Video link

It's not recommended no. You can do whatever you want, but sniping is not beginner friendly. Sniping is an expensive virtue and will take a lot of money and time for you to get a rifle that shoots far. Buying a stock sniper will mean you have to put money and parts into it, as the only “good” stock sniper rifle is the SSG24, and the Silverback SRS. The popular airsoft youtuber, Novritsch, has made sniping extremely popular with noobs as he shows a lot of action and gameplay with his guns. Keep in mind that being a sniper is not all action and takes patience and time. His videos are short for a reason. You do the math.

  1. What eyepro/lower face projection should I invest in?
Video link

Eyepro is the most important thing in airsoft. Airsoft is a sport that requires you to have eye protection on at all times while on the field. Lower face protection is required for most players under the age of 18 in most American fields. Anyone over the age of 18 can normally just get away with goggles, but you don't want to have to go to the dentist do you? Didn't think so. There are different types of eye protection for airsoft, ranging from basic shooting goggles, to face masks that protect your face. There are a lot of different goggles and masks out there, but here are some of the most populamost recommended items. Any eye protection you use MUST BE ANSI 787.1+, otherwise you cannot use them! DO NOT USE MESK EYE PROTECTION UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! They are not anzi rated, and their have been hundreds of cases where someone will shoot someone with mesk eye pro, and the bb will explore on the outside of the google, allowing the bb fragments to get inside an eye.

9. What is a "MED"?
Video link

If you’ve played airsoft before or are just hearing about this for the first time, a “MED” or minimum engagement distance is utilized in airsoft. Most airsoft guns have semi, and fully automatic. Most fields in the US, do NOT allow full auto within 40-50 feet. Imagine coming around a corner and getting shot with 10 bb’s because the person around the corner didn’t switch to semi. This isn’t Call of Duty, spraying your bb’s all over the place will achieve very little, if not anything. When you get closer than 40-50 feet, switch your AEG to semi. Airsoft, for the most part doesn’t hurt, but getting shot 10-20 times in a row certainly will. Don’t be that guy who full autos people from 10 feet away! It’s being an asshat, and will probably get you kicked out!

  1. What is a GBBR?
Video link

GBBR(Gas Blow-Back Rifles) are the hyper-realistic guns. If you have a larger budget and would like a more realistic experience these are the guns for you. Not usually recommended as starter guns because of the cost of gas and accessories, but not to be entirely ruled out for a select group of people. These guns require maintenance, but most would consider the work to be put to the background in the face of the utter satisfaction of using one of these guns. Check out GasBlowBack for more information on this topic.

11. The Search Bar
Video link

The search bar is a tool that is at the top of this sub that is used to search for a post or topic. This feature is not used by any beginners as they will probably ignore this guide and ask the question anyways. Most questions have been asked before and you will find your answer. To use the search bar:
A. Open reddit
B. Click on airsoft
C. Using your eyeballs, look at the top of your screen
D. Using your fingers, type in whatever you are looking for (I.E BEST BEGINNER SETUP)
E. Using your eyeballs, look at the results
F. Realize that most people will just ignore this guide and continue asking the same questions every single day.
G. Profit!

  1. Orange tips and their legality
Video link

Orange tips are required for retailers, but you are more than welcome to take them off after you receive your airsoft gun. Just note by doing so you will void your warranty. Also please do not take your airsoft gun out in public and follow basic gun safety. Please check your local state/county rules before doing this though. Note that random strangers on the internet will NOT know your local rules, so I cannot empathize this enough.

  1. Airsoft youtubers
Video link

A lot of users will watch certain youtubers and get a impression of the hobby that does not exist. Remember: Their job is to get views and entertain you, they cut out the parts that are boring. Clickbait content is what most beginners watch and please note that cheaters in airsoft are not as common at they make them to be. If you are interesting in learning more about clickbait, I made a video breaking down airsoft clickbait on youtube. There is of course great content creators out there that don't just make clickbait and I implore you to go look for them.

14.MSW (MilSim West)
Video link

MSW is considered the only "true" Milsim in the US. Interesting in going? Read the Tacsop.

  1. What are some cheap gear brands to get as a beginner?
Video link

It is also pretty common for airsofters to think they need to spend a bunch of money on super expensive gear to get started. This couldn't be farther from the truth. Good gear does not equal skill (BY ITSELF), and while having good gear CAN help you play, it won't make you a special operator by itself. Most users are on a budget anyways, and investing in cheap chest rigs is a great option to stay within your budget. Note that most of these recommendations will be chest rigs, simply because of the price and functionally of them. Condor is one of the most budget friendly airsoft gear brands out there, as they will be on this list a bunch. NOTE: THE CHEAP CROSS DRAW VESTS ARE NOT INCLUDED ON THIS LIST SIMPLY BECAUSE FOR THE MOST PART, THEY SUCK. Some good budget options ($0-100) would be:

  1. Lancer Tactical
Video link

So Lancer Tactical is not on this guide for a multitude of reasons. For starters, in 2017, their CEO was arrested at shot show under the pretenses of producing non-anzi rated goggles and advertising as such. They were producing goggles that were direct copies of Revision, and lied about their goggles being rated for airsoft. But the primary reason as to why they are not recommended is that their quality control is fucking horrendous. Lancer has created 2 "generations" of guns, with the 2nd generation "having a different oem" meaning that they were magically fixed. Spoiler alert, the QC is still garbage and even their "prolines" having terrible QC, with Reventian having to be SENT 3 for a review, and his 3rd one died. But if you don't believe me on the QC part, check out a compilation of lancer's breaking in the past year.

  1. Don't go out and spend $1000 before playing
Video link

It is also very common for users to approach airsoft with spending a bunch of money. Please don't do this. It is always recommended to rent before playing. After renting, don't go out and buy a shit ton of geaguns. Stay cheap, and don't go all out. Regardless of what you have seen on youtube, having the best gear does not make you the best player. How stupid would you look if you went out and bought a brand new Umbrella Armory and full Crye's if you don't like the hobby? Simply put, don't go out and buy expensive gear, like said above, stay cheap and go out to have fun.

  1. Comparing paintball and airsoft is like comparing apples to oranges
Video link

Comparing paintball to airsoft would be like comparing apples to oranges. They are two completely different hobbies that are very different. Paintball uses balls of paint that cannot go farther than normally 50-60 feet, whilst airsoft uses more realistic looking markers that can go much farther. If you are a paintballer, no problem, just don't come in here and try to compare the two :)

  1. What are the most common gearboxes?
Video link

The V2 and V3 mechboxes are the most common gearboxes found in M4/AK series AEG'S. If you are more interesting in learning about the V2 gearbox, check out the V2 gearbox guide. V2 gearboxes are found in most M4 series AEG's, while V3'S are found in AK series rifles. The MP5 often uses a modified V2/V3 gearbox, it all depends on the brand. The Airsoft Tech is a great resource if you are looking to expand your knowledge. Negative Airsoft is also another great resource, consider checking him out here.

[Emulation] Desmume And Its Disdainful Developers

Context
This post was inspired by this one. It goes into more detail about what emulators are, but the gist of it is that emulators are essentially applications that let you run games on devices other than their native consoles. The one that I’ll be discussing today is DesMuMe, one of the most popular emulators for running Nintendo DS games on computers. I didn’t see this drama unfold firsthand, so I’ll be drawing from the DesMuMe forums and old Reddit threads as my sources.
Transfer of Power
Desmume was originally created by a user called Yopyop156, who eventually decided to stop working on it due to changes in the laws surrounding emulation where they lived. However, Yopyop did release the source code, which allowed others to pick up where they left off. (Source)
It was from here that another user by the name of zeromus picked up the reins. This was fine, at least initially. While they have done good work since, they've taken a rather condescending attitude on various occasions. The most obvious examples of this are their comments on the forums and the FAQ. (Note: Some of the other developers seem to have shared zeromus’ opinions, at least to some extent.)
Samples of Disdain
Here are a couple examples from the forums:
http://forums.desmume.org/viewtopic.php?id=11613
apccristobal: I don’t know how to post the .dsv file? How do you post it?
zeromus: you should have received training on that when you got your internet operator's license. It's not my job to provide remedial instruction. Try send.firefox.com

http://forums.desmume.org/viewtopic.php?id=11614
RhiannonofOld: So I am currently playing through Pokémon White Version and I am wondering how do I cheat. I looked up a few websites and such and they gave me codes. I then input said codes into where it said cheats using action replay. But, it just doesn't work so I am wondering how to do it.
zeromus: cheating requires brains to understand the effect of the cheats and how to operate them as well to make sure youre actually using cheats for the correct rom and not interfering by misusing savestates which predate the activation of the cheats. This is not the best place to ask about this. Find a pokemon gamer's forum.
Most of zeromus’ responses appear to be legitimate attempts at advice, but they also make a fair amount of abrasive comments like the ones above. The FAQ is pretty similar in that it also provides legitimate advice, yet it also has significant portions with patronizing tones baked in. Here’s a couple parts that I find interesting:
Q: My computer overheats and freezes or reboots while using DeSmuME!
A: This is not DeSmuME's fault. Check for dusty fans, malfunctioning power control software, and update your video drivers. If you are running DeSmuME on a laptop, then a laptop cooler might help.

Q: DeSmuME runs too slow!
A: DeSmuME is a very CPU demanding app. While many users will see DeSmuME as a toy (and use it as such), it is actually a very sophisticated piece of software with lots of features. Also, DeSmuME focuses more on compatibility and features than on speed. Our philosophy is this: You can always mow some extra lawns or babysit some more rugrats to buy upgrades for your computer; but there's nothing you can do to fix compatibility or gain new features. We take care of our side of things, so you should take care of yours.
One thing I'd like to note is that the second example mentions that DeSmuMe is focused more on compatibility, or, in other words, accuracy. u/Auctoritate explains why this distinction is important, so I'll just yoink their explanation: "This quote leads to a funny quirk of emulating DS- desmume aims for accuracy over efficiency, meaning that they try to make it run as similarly to the original hardware as possible. This makes it a lot more resource intensive to run, as opposed to the other design philosophy in emulation, which is simply running software efficiently regardless of how accurate to the original hardware it is." Of course, it's within the devs' prerogative to choose what direction they want to take their project in, but they actually ended up contradicting themselves, as you'll see in a bit.
(Some inaccurate information was also removed thanks to some input from u/missabuse)
A Massive, Raging, Hate-Boner for Pokemon
The title for this section says it all. The devs hold a deep, personal hatred for Pokemon. This should be clear from the section at the very start of the FAQ that’s dedicated towards Pokemon.
Q: Why can't I play Pokemon Diamond / Pearl / HeartGold / SoulSilver / Black / White ? Why aren't they supported?
A: We are not going to support these games. Don't waste time asking, it will only make us angry. If you can't make it work, then give up and go buy the cart. gbatemp.net and ds-scene.net may be more interested in this topic. If you create new threads in our forum about these games, don't be surprised if they get closed or deleted depending on how obnoxious they are.

Q: I got to the end of Pokemon and now I can't reset and load my save file!
A: Too bad. Next time if you're going to play a game that requires that you make in-game saves consider making sure it works before you invest that much time in it.
It seems like this hatred for Pokemon came about because there were many people who were bugging the developers about it and being quite irritating in the process. It’s understandable, considering the sheer amount of Pokemon fans out there. (source)
And Now We Have a Motive
It was this hatred for Pokemon that led to a lot of the dev team/zeromus’ later actions. For example, they refused to fix specific glitches just because they happened to appear in Pokemon games (to be clear, these glitches also affected games outside of the Pokemon franchise). They also refused to work on wireless connectivity emulation, both for local multiplyer, and for the WFC, which allowed for online multiplayer. The initial excuse was that Nintendo could sue them for it, which is reasonable. Nintendo doesn’t take very kindly to emulators, and the company certainly wouldn’t like it very much if said emulators were able to connect to the official WFC servers (brief reminder that the post that inspired this one is literally about how Nintendo sued a website that hosted original game codes, which emulators need if you actually want to play old Nintendo games). Of course, Nintendo’s WFC servers were shut down in 2014, so it’s kind of a moot point now. Also, it seems like the actual cause was the aforementioned hatred for Pokemon.
On another note, realize how in their FAQ, the devs claim that they aim for accuracy and full features. The whole not fixing things because of Pokemon contradicts that.
All of this, while incredibly petty, was within their rights. This is something that the devs were doing in their free time; they weren’t getting paid for this. It’s not like they were obligated to do anything, as nasty as their attitude could be.
However, zeromus actually went behind people’s backs and removed their work on wifi emulation, specifically the work of a user who went by Luigi in the past and now goes by Arisotura.
Another thing that should be noted is that zeromus also insisted on having only the original resolution. They only relented on adding HD resolution after people started forgoing the main project in favor of the X432R fork.
Sources: 1, 2, 3, 4
Outcome
Although all the stuff listed above did spawn some discourse, there was never any direct backlash. DesMuMe remains one of the most popular DS emulators for the PC out there, although it still lacks any wifi emulation. On the development end, it’s pretty stagnant. While there’s still some activity on Github, the last stable update was in 2015, and it seems like the only remaining active developer is zeromus. Some of the developers left because they got busier or lost interest, but there are definitely those like Arisotura who left because of the behavior of zeromus. There are also those who expressed interest in working on DesMuMe but never joined the development team because of the overall atmosphere.
As for Arisotura, they seem to be doing fine. They started up their own DS emulator called melonDS. It practically has all the core functionality, and the development team is currently working on emulating the DSi and getting the wifi features to work properly.
All in all, DesMuMe seems to be going out with a whimper, rather than a bang.

Night Sky Season Megathread

A second Night Sky Season has arrived!
Merge Dragon Seasons are 28-day game-wide events that let players win prizes by completing specific quests. A basic set of 30 rewards are available for free to all participants, with an additional set of premium rewards offered to players who buy a Royal Pass.
The Season quests are similar to others in the game, and center on harvesting, merging items, healing dead land, and other common tasks. Once a quest is completed, its individual prize can be collected on the Season rewards screen and sent to your Camp in a loot orb.
This will mark the fifth Seasons event on Merge Dragons, and the second that has been widely available to most players.

Season Basics

The basic Season rewards consist of Season chests, a few common low- to mid-level Camp items, and 7 Tanzanite Mystery eggs which yield coin breed whelps.
Season chests are similar to regular Treasure and Grimm chests; when opened, they yield a random assortment of items normally found in Pearlescent, Dangerous, Occult, Golden, and Moon chests. The “Tap” notification for each level of Season chest will vanish as soon as one of that level is opened, and chests from different Seasons can be merged as long as they are of the same level. This short video created by u/Proplaner shows what to expect from tapping these chests and the Decision Eggs; the general mix of contents for both has been consistent across all Seasons so far.
The basic Season prizes are relatively low value, and many people just sell the items for coins straight away. That said, active players can complete most of the quests with minimal extra effort, so these could be considered free rewards for normal playing; the challenge of completing all 30 quests may also add some excitement all on its own.

Quests

All quest tasks can be completed in Camp, Levels, regular weekend Out-Of-Camp Events, or any combination of the three. Many of the same quick, low-chalice levels popular for farming Dragon Stars work well for these quests. OOC events are held on weekends several times a month; specific info, including strategies and tips for completion, can be found in our Community Info FAQ section.
The number of Basic Season quests that can be completed each day is limited; when a pause is reached, the next quest will always become available at the next normal event starting hour (around 7pm Greenwich Mean Time, or 2pm Eastern US Time). The Royal Pass used to remove this cool-down period so that each new task started as soon as the previous one ended; that has now changed, and the delays are merely reduced for at least some pass purchasers. Prizes do not need to be collected immediately, but anything left on the board at the end of the Season will be lost.
Here are this Season’s quests (curtesy of the Dragonia Den Discord) with the date each unlocks for the basic free version:
  1. Harvest anything 65x (Jan 20)
  2. Merge anything 75x (Jan 20)
  3. Heal land 45x (Jan 21)
  4. Gain or create stars 4x (Jan 22)
  5. Harvest from Life Flowers 75x (Jan 23)
  6. Merge Eggs or Dragons 5x (Jan 24)
  7. Merge any Life Flowers 40x (Jan 25)
  8. Merge anything 140x (Jan 26)
  9. Gain or Create stars 5x (Jan 27)
  10. Merge Eggs or Dragons 8x (Jan 28)
  11. Harvest from anything 95x (Jan 29)
  12. Heal land 65x (Jan 30)
  13. Merge any Life Flowers 45x (Jan 31)
  14. Merge anything 145x (Feb 1)
  15. Gain or Create stars 8x (Feb 2)
  16. Heal land 70x (Feb 3)
  17. Harvest from Life Flowers 125x (Feb 4)
  18. Merge Eggs or Dragons 12x (Feb 5)
  19. Merge any Life Flowers 75x (Feb 6)
  20. Merge anything 250x (Feb 7)
  21. Heal land 90x (Feb 8)
  22. Gain or Create stars 9x (Feb 9)
  23. Merge anything 200x (Feb 10)
  24. Merge any Life Flowers 90x (Feb 11)
  25. Merge Eggs or Dragons 11x (Feb 12)
  26. Merge anything 255x (Feb 13)
  27. Merge any Life Flowers 95x (Feb 14)
  28. Heal land 110x (Feb 15)
  29. Merge Eggs or Dragons 13x (Feb 16)
  30. Gain or Create stars 10x (Feb 17)
These quests are similar to what has been offered in previous Seasons; only the specific order and number of task repetitions has changed.

Tips for Completing Quests

  • Heal Any Land: OOC Events are good for this; but once past the 35k dragon power level, unlocking dead land in Camp is a rare occasion.
  • Gain or Create Stars: In levels, actions that trigger after the level has been completed do not count; this includes gaining the third star in popular levels like Zomblin Falls 1 and Dread Marsh 3. Purple Dragon stars do not count unless you tap out their gems, but this is definitely not recommended for the lvl 1 Dragon stars due to the huge loss in potential gems.
    • New Info: Stars tapped out of level 7 Giant Treasure Chests will count towards this quest, as will stars gained by tapping applicable Daily Treasure Chests. This only counts when freshly opening a chest; stars already present in your Camp in loot orbs from previously tapped chests will not register as “new”
    • Thanks to u/Baddread for this tip!
    • Good levels: Skull Grove, Summit 1, Summit 2,
  • Harvest Anything: This is a great incentive to set your dragons to harvesting fruit and fruit trees to build your coin supply; grinding for stone and material for other chains works well, too, and OOC events provide plenty of opportunities.
  • Harvest from Life Flowers: Regular weekend events are great for this; however, dragons will only harvest life orbs on their own if unlocked dead land is present, so established Camps may not be ideal.
  • Merge Anything: Grinding in your Camp for any chain using stone-bought chests will make short work of these; in levels you can cheat and go with 3-merges if you are sure it won’t leave you short of materials to finish the level objectives. Unfortunately, merging in multiples only counts as 1, so mass-merging (such as in events) will slow your progress.
  • Merge Life Flowers: Grinding Moon/Phobos chests in Camp works well, and moves you that much further towards the ultimate goal of creating the Rainbow wonder. OOC Events also yield plenty of opportunities, especially towards the end when there’s plenty of materials to make sprouts, and no reason to avoid 3-merges. Note that only “flowers” count for these quests; items over level 7 are considered “trees”.
  • Merge Eggs or Dragons: There’s not much opportunity for this in OOC Events, but it’s a good incentive to work on building up your Camp dragon herd. Stockpiling Bountiful chests awarded by completing levels will yield lots of free eggs as long as you keep the countdown clock going; collecting the chests on the main Levels map will deliver them to your Camp in a loot bubble for easy storage. Eggs in loot orbs from Kala trades are also convenient for hoarding off to one side of your screen; likewise for Friendship eggs and shards, or Event and Season egg and nest rewards. Some Camp Quests involve tapping nests or merging eggs or dragons, so if the timing’s right you’ll fulfill multiple tasks at once.

Buying a Royal Pass

Each Season offers players the opportunity to purchase a Royal Pass; the first three were $4.99 US, but the price jumped to $9.99 US in Season 4. This purchase unlocks an additional premium tier of prize items and performance boosts, in addition to all the basic prize items:
The current Season’s Royal Pass offers:
  • From the Royal Guardian breed: 19 dragon eggs and a nest, plus a L1, L2, and two L3 dragons.
  • 3 Sapphire and 3 Ruby Fire Mystery eggs
  • A L1 Cosmos whelp
  • A L1 Gargoyle whelp
  • 6 Decision eggs
  • Performance boosts to dragon speeds (starts at +2%, and maxes at +8%)
  • Faster chalice refill times (starts at +5%, and maxes at +20%)
  • Temporary +20% increase of coin and stone brick storage capacity
  • The option to pay gems to complete individual unlocked quests
  • No cool-down period between quests
    • A new version of the Pass that still included cool-downs was initially released to some purchasers, before being rolled back on Feb 4. More info is below in the “Is the Pass worth buying” section.
All prize eggs, dragons, and items are permanent once brought to your Camp, but the performance boosts and extra storage only last for the duration of that particular Season. Passes do not carry over; no matter if they are bought on day 1 or day 27, they’ll all expire on day 28, and any unearned or uncollected rewards will vanish.

Decision Eggs

When first tapped, Decision Eggs offer a choice between three breeds, and then the egg permanently changes into whichever breed you select. If you do not like the choices offered, closing and reopening the game will reset the options. Decision eggs do not expire, and can be bubbled using the MarcusV method, or just left in their original loot orb.
  • NOTE: Having an un-bubbled egg for a given breed sitting out in your Camp seems to improve the odds of being offered that breed as one of the choices, even for Tier 2 Trophy breeds.
Most players prefer to select eggs that are difficult to gain by other means; here is a general guide to availability:
A note about Super Eggs: These attract a lot of attention because they give on a good show and give multiple dragons at once. But they are free with patience (a shard is given by every 7th Daily Treasure Chest), and yield mostly coin breed L1 whelps, so many players feel they are overrated and not worth paying gems or cash.

Is the Night Sky Royal Pass worth buying?

  • Tl;dr: Not unless you really love the Royal Guardian dragon breed. The rest of the reward items are available elsewhere for less money (or free), the total number of dragons you get is low compared to other purchase options, the dragon performance boosts are hardly noticeable, and you may still face days-long waits before starting new quests.
The first three Seasons had a Royal Pass priced at $4.99 US that gave a total of 19x featured breed eggs and a nest, plus 1x level 1, 1x level 2, and 2x level 3 dragons. Combined, this merges up to 4x level 3 dragons, or the equivalent of 63-67 eggs (depending on how many are in the nest). Those Passes also yielded an 7x additional mixed Mystery eggs, 2x older premium/trophy breed whelps, and 6x Decision eggs, along with a few small amounts of coin and stone. Seasons 1 and 3 starred brand new trophy breeds (Royal Guardian and Wild Gryphon), while Season 2 featured the existing Autumn dragon.
The Royal Pass in Season 4 gave a similar number of eggs and dragons, and featured the Prism breed, which is available in Camp via the Magnificent Artefacts chain. This Pass greatly reduced the dragon performance boosts, from 20% down to 8%, and shrunk the storage capacity boost from 100% down to 20%. This Season’s most controversial change was to the price of the Royal Pass, which doubled for most players from $4.99 to $9.99 US.
The current Night Sky 2 Season Royal Pass:
  • Has the same doubled price and greatly reduced boosts, and lower value non-featured breed whelps.
  • Features the Royal Guardian trophy breed. This is the first time many players will see this dragon; it was introduced in Season 1 last September, but only to a limited group of beta testers.
  • Devs are testing a new “feature” regarding cool-down times between quests — players that still see the phrase “unlocks all quests” at the bottom of the Royal Pass’ benefit description are allowed to start the next quest as soon as the prior one is completed, just as in previous Seasons. However, games that instead show the words “unlock all quests quicker” will encounter cool-down periods of up to 6 days
    • This is an a/b test, with accounts assigned to a version at random; if you purchased a non-instant unlock Pass without spotting the one-word change in the description, you may be able to get a refund by contacting Game Support or via your app store (more info at bottom).
    • This new version was first posted about in this thread shortly after the event began; a few hours later this response from Gram Games Support was shared.
    • The new version of the Pass appears to limit overall progress to the normal pace experienced by free players. The difference is that Pass players get small blocks of quests unlocked all at once, but then can’t progress further until the one-release-per-day basic players have caught up.
    • Basic season players have always seen their final quest unlocked 24 hours before the end of the Season; hopefully these Pass players will see the last block of quests released well before that to provide some flexibility for things that might prevent playing on the final day.
    • On Feb 4, Gram Games began removing cool-downs from all versions of the Royal Pass; it is not yet known how this will affect refund requests.
The non-dragon Royal Pass benefits are of limited value in the game:
  • Extra coin and stone storage capacity is handy, but does not add much actual value outside of a few specific tasks, such as farming coins in a level or after completing OOC events.
  • Paying gems to skip quests is questionable given how easy most tasks are completed and the 28 day time frame.
  • The removal or reduction of the cool-down periods between quests may speed things up, but most non-paying players will have plenty of time to complete the tasks even with the frequent wait periods.
  • Players still working their way through the levels, or those seriously grinding for Dragon Stars, may benefit from increased chalice refill speeds, but only if they are playing enough to keep the countdown timer running.
The greatest benefit from purchasing a Royal Pass is in the trophy dragons it yields; the objective rarity and obtainability of each breed will vary, and for many players the ultimate desirability may be heavily influenced by personal preference. If you feel a strong connection to the Royal Guardian, it may be worth the price to gain four level 3 dragons from this Season; the breed will certainly be offered again, but probably not for at least several months and will most likely still require a cash purchase.

I still don’t have the Season in my game

The Seasons events have been gradually rolled out to the Merge Dragons community, with each version reaching more players than the last. Most players should have access now, but according to the Support website, there are still some accounts left out. If you do not see the newest Season in your game, try these possibly solutions:
  • Check that your game is up to date — automatic updates can be unreliable for this app.
  • Check you have at least 200 dragon power — new players will need to build up their stats before a Season appears.
  • Check your internet connection — if it is too slow or unstable, events and other activities requiring access to Gram Games servers will not activate.
  • Clear your game’s cache — A good option any time the game acts weird; sadly this is not available on iPhones
  • Restart your device — this can sometimes trigger things to show properly in the game when nothing else works.
If none of that helps, you may unfortunately still be excluded from participating by the developer; this is due to ongoing a/b testing, where the devs look at how various versions of the game affect player behavior like spending patterns. You can try contacting Gram Games Support through the in-game link or the official website to ask about it, or at least rule out if there is any kind of fixable problem involved.
As a last resort, you can try backing up your game to the cloud (via Facebook or Apple’s Game Center), completely deleting the app from your device, re-downloading it from the app store, and then restoring your game progress from the earlier cloud save. If all goes well, this may get you a version of the game that includes the Seasons, but it is considered a risky option; cloud save is never 100% reliable, and any glitch or misstep in the process could cost you some or all of your progress.

Contacting the Developers

If you would like to give Gram Games some feedback on this event, you can message them through the in-game Support link (on your Settings page), or through the game’s Support website. Please remember the people who answer the support tickets are not the ones responsible for the changes; they can only help with a limited number of technical issues, and their responses to complaints about changes in the game must align with the official message given to them by their bosses. All complaints are passed on to the developers; if you want to increase the odds of your message attracting close attention, be polite and constructive in your criticism — if you have suggestions for improvements or better ways they could monetize the game, let them know.
It may be possible to get a refund if you paid for the current Royal Pass without spotting the slight change in the description about unlocking quests — especially since the previous version of that pass was still advertised on the game’s official Seasons FAQ page well after players started receiving the new one. If Gram Games is unwilling to help, it may be possible to apply for a refund directly through your device’s app store.
Here’s a Support response from Monday morning, granting a refund to one unhappy player. Some early requests were reportedly denied, but as the verdicts seem to be applied inconsistently, a second attempt might be warranted if a first request was refused.

Mid-20s, feeling lost. Would appreciate some much needed advice.

TLDR (because this is really long)

My constraints:
My inner desires:
Hi, ssc. I feel like I fucked up my trajectory in life by deliberately straying off the beaten path. I got Silicon Valley-pilled very early on and it didn’t work out as well as I’d hope it would. So…
Anyway, so first things first:
Let me explain that last point. Before COVID-19 and its rapidly multiplying cousins, I had places to be in. Got accepted into newfangled Silicon Valley fellowships, went to international hackathons, all that jazz. But I couldn’t follow through with all of them for the simple reason that the US denied me a B1 visa. Which is like, great, right? Try again, live another day, not an AI takeover-level doomsday scenario. There were other options but I had no money and there was no way in hell I could keep studying while trying to get $10 000 just to pay for lawyer fees for an O-1 which wasn’t guaranteed to work out anyway…so yeah.
That was all Q1 2020. Instead, I had to become a freeloader in my mum’s metaphorical basement who’s also supporting my currently unemployed older brother.
The thing is, lots of career advice out there is aimed at 20-somethings in the US. Which makes sense, because the Internet is American, but it also means a dearth of advice for people like me which a) do not fail Economics 101 (Become a nurse! Everyone and their mother became nurses 30 years ago when it was still lucrative to do so and now they’re in Canada licking syrup off maple leaves and barely conscious seniors), or b) aren’t borderline illegal.
For example, since I’m not white, even if I speak English fluently it’s going to be an uphill battle for me to move to some East Asian country to teach ESL. I can’t just move to Europe too and pluck diamonds out of some newly discovered diamond mine because, well, the Schengen visa is almost as hard to get for people like me as a US visa. And it’s not like I can sell bathwater…
I know the Ideal Entrepreneur isn’t supposed to be whiny, and the Ideal Rationalist doubly so, but god fucking dammit I want things! I wanna be out there doing stuff.
So, okay. In the spirit of shutting up and multiplying, what’s my n-step plan then?

Step 1: Suck it up and move to Canada

Months of scouring iwantout and immigrationcanada have led me to believe that Canada and Australia are the only places in the world which are actively trying to minimise the number of pulled hairs per immigrant they get. Their immigration systems are points-based, which means you can actually plan your life around them instead of going on wild goose chases and trying to seduce people into committing immigration fraud.
My reasoning goes: anything and everything I do from here on out is partly constrained by money, and partly constrained by the trustworthiness of the institutions around me. For reference, it took ~6 months for me to register my company in our version of the SEC. And that’s with lots of ‘applying grease’ and other unscrupulous-but-necessary activities which I very much would not like to do again.
So the first step in my plan is to give up trying to found yet another company and get a real job.
To do that, I have to tick the following boxes:
Doing all these will get me enough points to potentially be invited into the country without having to go back to school. These are pretty easy/hard depending on how much time I’m willing to allow myself to achieve them. If I hurry and make the right choices, I can probably accomplish the first two by 2022.
The third ones’ tricky though, and thus we go back to the whole developing country issue again. Most local job postings offer salaries that fall within 4000-8000 USD/year, which is not nearly enough to survive on while also saving up to immigrate BUT the advantage of choosing them is I can probably get any one of them quickly with the stuff I already have in my résumé. On the other hand, most decent-paying programming jobs are restricted to US/EU timezones (I live along UTC+8) and there’s the problem of, well, I don’t really know how to apply to jobs and their job postings are much more intimidating. At least, with local jobs, I already have an idea of what to expect during interviews from conversations with my peers.
I know it’s HR people who write those things and you don’t have to match all the requirements 100% to get accepted but the competition right now is fierce, right? I see people sending out 100+ résumés without getting so much as a canned response, so what are my odds being in a weird timezone AND not having several GitHub repos with 1000+ stars? If on the other hand I niche down and stalk the monthly Who is Hiring? posts on Hacker News, well, those guys are even more serious about posted requirements and are probably holding LeetCode interviews.
Still, not getting a job from the Western Hemisphere is leaving a lot of money on the table so I’m thinking there’s two ways I can go about this: either a) I spend 2-3 months obsessively padding my GitHub then interviewing with EU companies, or b) I grind LeetCode for much longer and try my hand at US/Canada companies directly.
Hell, if I do it right, maybe I can get transferred and not have to worry about my CRS points. A lot of people have warned me over the years that immigrating to a first-world country will probably mean I have to do some manual labor for a couple of years, and going by LMIA-category job postings the reality might not be far off. And I get that, I really do. I’m not trying to toot my own horn, but it just feels like such a waste, though. I can code my way out of a paper bag, I can teach graduate-level math to children, I can run a proper business and yet to better my living conditions I have to change toddlers’ diapers? I know dignity is one of those snooty things which people like me shouldn’t feel entitled to especially if I’m LARP-ing rationality and trying to Systematically Win, but it still sucks, y’know?

Step 2: ./financial-independence.sh, sign up for cryonics

Another sage comment I keep hearing from Canadian immigrant-would-bes is that, it’s a thankless achievement. You basically uproot your life so your children can frolick in cut grass instead of trash piles infused with rusty nails.
Since this is a pseudonymous post anyway, I can be shamelessly ambitious. I want to raise the next John Stuart Mill, and this is a huge part of why I want staying in my country of origin isn’t an option. But that also means I have all sorts of soft deadlines, e.g., peak fertility, income level by said peak, my own capacity to homeschool my children, etc. that I have to meet to maximise the success of this…err…project, not to mention having my own intellectual body of work to pass on.
Lots of things to do, time is so short, and I can already feel my mortal coil unwinding by the second…
Another constraint my utility function has imposed on me is an otherworldly attachment to my 8-month old puppy. I would very much not like him to die, and so I would like to be in a position to take advantage of biotech advances from companies like Loyal in a couple of years AND then maybe sign us both up for cryonics down the line. I know ssc has a love-hate relationship with cryonics and cryonics-adjacent technologies but I’ve been an LW-er far longer and the anti-cryonics arguments I’ve seen have yet to shift my priors as strongly as the original discussions on that darned green website.
It’s weird, actually. I used to not want to get pets, because I knew it would make things 10x harder for me (e.g., I can’t squeeze myself into six-person 3BR apartments anymore) but he was bequeathed to me and it was downright creepy how quickly my values drifted. Literally, within four days, I became so enamored with my furry friend that I had pre-mourned his probable death.
In any case, by this point I should have produced a voluminous body of work in some discipline. Which is basically the same thing as saying I have no idea what to do with my life.
I am clever. Or rather, I have to believe I’m clever because otherwise I have nothing else. I have no other genetic endowments. I will probably lose a sprint to a guy in a wheelchair, and my parents were dirt poor before they became not-as-poor so I don’t have a pile of gold to sit on. In a way, my insistence on naïvely thinking of life as a munchkinable game protects me from the harsh reality of not really having great odds when it comes to doing any of the things I want to do. So instead of playing statistical tennis, why not work with what I have, right?

Step 3: Do what I would have done in my 20s

There are lots of interesting people doing interesting things, and most of them can be found on Discord, Twitter, and Clubhouse.
wookay that statement sort of outs me as a grifter, huh, but it's becoming clear that this is LinkedIn 2.0 especially for people in the Bay Area memespace. Savvy careerists have recently been touting cosigning-style credentialism everywhere, and discussions in these spaces tend to feel very permissive (?), high Openness to Experience (??) in a way that’s hard to pin down. What’s even better is, even though I’ve given up on migrating to the Bay, I now have access to these pockets of techno-optimism that I otherwise wouldn’t. And that’s great! Entrepreneurs get a lot of flack for many things (some fully deserved, admittedly) so it’s nice to have a place where people try their darned hardest to see the good in your ideas.
If the coming Singularity somehow turns out to be underwhelming , I would very much like to start a space shipping/manufacturing company or hell join these folks who are trying to build self-replicating factories on the Moon. Barring that, I’d like to be the first to take this tech to market. I mean, I can’t be the only one seeing the trillion-dollar genital enlargement bill lying on the ground here, right?
Given all this, it’s really painful for me to even consider getting a job, even if saying that sounds so…socially unacceptable? Insert CW designator here? It means I have to give up working on this promising new idea I recently had (or at least take it up as an evenings-and-weekends affair), just as I was able to finally find a cofounder [*]. I’ve always known I rolled badly so I took great pains to rebuild my environment to maximise my chances. That’s how I was able to start a company without having any capital: I found co-founders who were willing to foot the bill. Similarly, I’ve convinced my entire family to let me disentangle myself from the typical Asian path of being my parents’ retirement plan, even though culturally speaking that was a very selfish thing to do. I don’t know how I could have done things differently, to be honest. There weren’t win-win options in my case, but then again maybe I should have looked harder.
One thing I would have if I was born in the average household in the US are equally palatable options. If I don’t drop out of high school and immediately move to the Bay, I would have gone to apply to the best universities in the world. Of course, there’s no telling if I’m actually going to get into any of them, but the alternative is what I have: a degree from some no-name university as my only real credential. Sure, what I learned in my uni was probably not that far off from what I would have learned in say Dartmouth (according to people I’ve asked) but if employers really cared about what people knew, we wouldn’t be in this pickle we’re in right now, would we?
Barring all that, I still have so many other options to chose from. Work in a trade, own a farm, become an au pair in some cozy European country, join a commune, backpack in Southeast Asia with my powerful visa, pull a Matt Damon and audit classes, write the next Great American Novel, join the formless matrix like Gwern, work remotely in an RV, etc.
Either that or I just have a very, very unrealistic view of how things work over there.

Outro

I've heard all sorts of horrible things about jobs. In fact, my mom works 16 hours a day, six days a week for ~8700 USD/year with unpaid overtime and a boss who keeps telling her she should be "thankful that she didn't lose her job during a pandemic". They even have their employees on a minute-by-minute-accurate pseudo-surveillance app where bathroom breaks are written off one's worked hours and not moving her mouse every three seconds is grounds for a being told off come performance review time. And she's supposed to be the head of her department! So I'm thinking if that's how things are, right now, and by good ol' Copernicus there's nothing special about her, then don't I have enough reason to stay away from office work forever?
I will vomit my spleen out if I get into such a dystopian state.
Of course, something tells me that her case is somewhat out there in terms of being y’know, healthy? And it does show. She’s been having breakdowns every other week and it’s a real worry for us that she’s going to pop a vein or two soon, if things don’t change. But yeah, even if I know intellectually that not all jobs are like hers, I can’t absorb it on a visceral level. I can’t make my inner brain follow my outer brain.
So that’s why I’m here. Our monthly (Slack-free) fixed costs amount to like 720 USD/month which I’m guessing is below the US poverty line so I am sorry if I’m trying to take away your jobs. But all this remote business means that the bar shouldn’t be high for people like me, right? I just have to earn enough money to allow my mum to get a new, not-run-by-Satan-himself job and hopefully allow me to save for Canadian Express Entry.
Lastly, a final complicating factor is I don’t know if I can stomach programming as a job. I love programming for programming’s sake, so I worry that unlike in my first startup where I could dictate what needs to be done, a soulless job would leave my interest a likewise soulless husk. If anything, I’m currently under the throes of the Lisp curse after having avoided the language family for so long.
I feel like I'm having tunnel vision here. Surely there are more career paths than engraving technomancic runes into electrified rock? I did scour the subreddit for other career-advice threads, which seem to crop up every season (sorry!) and there are jobs like business analysis that seem to be up my alley (aside from being the CTO in my last startup, I also did a ton of market research and spun various internal processes directly from it) But then again, I am writing all this down so I’m at the point where I’m desperate enough to compromise on this.
What do you think, ssc? Any glaring errors aside from this entirely incoherent mess? Alternative paths I’m not seeing?
[*]: We could bootstrap a less risky SaaS company and grind towards $1000 MRR but that could take at least two years to come to fruition, if I'm being honest.
